About Me

aboutmeThroughout my life I have found that I have been interested in, and cared deeply about the issues that others were experiencing in their lives. I have been someone that others have felt comfortable confiding in. I feel blessed that I have been able to create a career in the helping field.

After receiving my own counseling in my early 20’s to deal with issues related to self-esteem and self-worth, I began to believe in the possibility of achieving my aspirations to work in the helping profession-and in my late 20’s I decided to return to school. That felt like such a risk!  yet, with my reclaimed confidence and hope I embarked on the path of my studies at University. I completed a bachelor’s degree in Social work (BSW) in 2001. Social work is a profession that looks at the broader issues in society and how these issues impact subgroups, families and individuals. After several years of post-grad employment experiences I became a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in 2008.

I believe change in an individual’s life occurs from shifts in both their inner and outer lives. I then uncovered, through many different roles as a social worker, that I had an interest and an aptitude for working with people on a more individual level, exploring their inner experiences. After some encouragement from friends and family, I decided a return to school was necessary to learn the additional skills needed to become a more competent counsellor. I then went on to obtain my Master’s Degree in Counselling in 2010.

I work from a holistic counselling approach which considers the mind, body, and spirituality of an individual. I use a variety of skills, techniques and (therapeutic) modalities to address an individual’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are causing them distress in their life. We will work together on creating the inner transformation that is necessary for creating the outward changes in life that you seek. Through this process of change you may experience strong emotions as you consider your past and being to think, feel and behave differently. Counselling is an active process that will be challenging yet rewarding. I sincerely enjoy the opportunity to join you in the process of counselling, where I intend on working with you to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of yourself, co-creating and assisting you to achieve your goals.
